This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has a large population of students of various nationalities and backgrounds in a high poverty district of Tennessee. I mostly teach freshmen and sophomores in my Algebra 1 class, but I have every grade in my RTI class.
Over three-fourths of our students come from low-income households, but they do not let that stop them from excelling.
We are one of the few schools in our area to have an International Baccalaureate program. These kids are serious about their education and make an effort to show up every day ready to learn.
My Project
Almost everything is done by paper and pencil in my school. The teachers print out the notes, homework, and anything else the students will be working on in class everyday. Since we cover a new topic every day or every other day, we end up making a lot of copies each week. Many of us end up printing make up work and missing assignments for our students as well because many of our kids don't have a printer at home.
For this reason, my goal is to get more paper donated for the entire math department.
There are 15 math teachers at my school and I plan to share with every math teacher who needs more paper. This would benefit nearly every student in the school, since every student is required to take a math class every year.
