This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The beginning of my first year of teaching art I was told I would have a budget of $500 for the year's supplies. I was very worried because the last teacher didn’t leave any supplies in the classroom. Little did I realize how quickly we would use those supplies and how much of my own money I spent throughout the year, I am now in need of markers, paint, and paper. To make sure we have enough supplies for everyone to create a masterpiece.
My Project
I teach Kindergarten through fifth grade Art and try to make ends meet filling our supplies order with grants each year. This year has left us running extremely low on our biggest essential white and color construction paper. We do everything we can to sketch it throughout the year cutting and saving extra pieces in our scrap bins.
We need white construction paper and pencils which is the base for most of our projects and allows students to take that blank canvas in a variety of directions.
When we started the school year and begin to introduce new mediums it’s always easier to start with the basics of paper and pencil.
