Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in Charlotte, NC. My school is comprised of low income students; many are on free or reduced lunch. We have a high population of students who are English as a Second Language (ESL).
I love teaching and love giving my students everything they need. Yet, I have one big problem this year! I have no handwriting paper for my first grade students!
Many students write on unlined paper in kindergarten, therefore, first grade is the first year that students practice writing on lined paper.
In this proposal, I am asking for lined paper (with a dotted middle line), and for story paper which is blank at the top for pictures and then lined at the bottom. With both of these kinds of handwriting paper, my students will be able to practice handwriting as they write stories, letters, and do general classwork. It will be easier to instruct them on forming letters correctly. For instance, 'stop at the red line, or start at the dotted line.'
