Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in room 173 are an inspiring group of young adults. Each student comes with their own story, their own struggles, their own barriers. But together, they build each other up and support one another no matter what. The classroom is a functional life skills class. That means, each student has a moderate to severe disability. However, their immense capacity for love and compassion, is nothing short of incredible.
We are small, but we are mighty.
I believe we can make a difference in our community this year. These students, my students, inspire me everyday to be better and to do better. They are not held back by anything. Each day is an opportunity to put a smile on someones face, to make someone feel loved and welcomed. It is an honor to teach these young adults. They are a true testament to what hard work and perseverance can do for a small community.
My Project
A lot of us in the Functional Life Skills class struggle to speak and express ourselves, so we use art to get our feelings out! We do art everyday during 5th period and that means we go through a lot of supplies! Our budget is tiny and we don't have room for art supplies. So we decided to create this project in the hopes of stocking our art cabinets with beautiful paper and paints! Art is a vital time of the day for us to focus, create, and get all the things we can't say down on paper. We also get to practice fine motor skills like cutting, writing, painting, and drawing!
