Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, energetic little creators, with brains that never cease to stop wondering. They thrive when it comes to cutting, gluing, and constructing works of art that express the element of form. They have seemingly boundless imaginations of what their creations might be, if only they were made from "real" materials. I want to show them that paper is a viable option. It's not just a good start; it's an affordable and versatile material that could be used for engineering.
My Project
As an arts teacher, it's widely understood that we must advocate for our programs or risk losing them altogether. Although I am well aware of the profound impact that arts education has on our students, not everyone does. In order to better supplement my lessons with real-world examples, I like to incorporate science into my curriculum. Specifically, space science.
Robotics is an exciting and engaging way to integrate science with art.
This professional development program is a five-day training which teaches how to utilize the science of robotics and engineering with the tactile experience of paper collage. This kinesthetic approach to making functional art would be a thrilling way to teach space science paired with art.
Pathfinders Summer Institute has offered to include tuition, housing, all travel costs and a meal plan, through funds raised here on DonorsChoose. This will allow me to use my own personal monies to purchase supplies which can be used during the training and brought back to my students here in Colorado.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Peterson and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
