My Project
I teach in a school that is culturally and linguistically diverse. My 2nd graders are kind and inquisitive little human beings who thrive on opportunities to move and express their creativity, emotions, and energy. We are often singing, dancing, and making art as well as working on the core subjects of reading/language arts and math. There is a lot of joy in my classroom!
Ever since I introduced my class to origami at the beginning of the school year, my students have had a strong interest in it.
They take every possible moment to work on their paper folding techniques - during our "quiet time" after lunch, after finishing their main class assignments, or during recess on the playground. Origami is one of the activities they take with them outside the classroom, making paper animals at home, and proudly showing me their creations when the bring them back to school.
Origami is excellent for developing manual dexterity, spatial awareness, and understanding of geometry and other mathematical concepts. It can also provide valuable practice in following written instructions developing comprehension of informational text! At the end-of-year, I would like to give all my students a copy of Easy Origami so that they can pursue their passion for origami over the summer. I chose this title in hopes that they might be able to understand the instructions and diagrams, or attempt these origami projects with the help of an adult. I am also requesting origami paper, which I will package and distribute to students along with copies of the book.
