This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Imagine walking into a fourth-grade classroom, and the only thing you have is the sparkle in your eye! How would you feel? Few teachers come into their brand-new classrooms knowing that they have to stock them. We stock them full of supplies, books, and sometimes furniture too! This is probably the hardest part for teachers because we cannot do our jobs without supplies, but our salaries do not allow for being excessive, so we beg, borrow and gift to our classrooms. We walk in not knowing that we need to not only decorate but also supply everything. This year we lost even the limited paper and pencils we received.
Our students have grown up in an inner-city; many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities of life on a daily basis that are well beyond what most of us could imagine.
Despite all of this, they come to school ready to expand their minds and continue to explore, but what happens if the teachers cannot supply them with the needed materials. My students continue to be hopeful and strive to do their best even though sometimes it is hard for teachers to get what they need. This year we have less copy paper than ever, so I am asking for paper for my grade level. Copy paper gives the children homework and center work. If I take that away, how do I do my job.
They are always looking to learn new things and explore different subjects more in-depth; they come to school hungry for knowledge, trying to do their best to learn as I try to do my best to give them a good education and an introduction to the American way of life. Our school has limited resources, and the parents have even less! We need paper!
