This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
A day in my classroom can be very crazy and rewarding at the same time. My students come from very low income families. Some of them come to school without having eaten breakfast or without clean clothes. Regardless of their circumstances, the students work hard and never give up.
This is my first year teaching at this school.
It has been a roller coaster ride so far this school year. Teaching has proved to be very challenging at times, and sometimes down right difficult, but it is also extremely rewarding to see when a child is learning because of me. The beginning of the year was tough, especially at an inner city school, but as the year has gone on, it has gotten much better and I couldn't think of a another career I'd rather be in. Although this is my first year here, I was selected to be the grade level chair. In that role I am responsible to my administration in ensuring that we work together as a team and I also have to prepare what we will be doing in class.
The materials I'm requesting are a color printer and ink cartridges. As the grade level chair and professional development liaison I have to prepare lessons and that requires a lot of printing of resources. I also have to print professional development certificates and lessons for teachers. At my school we have to buy our own ink, and that can be very expensive. A laser printer and ink cartridges would last me the whole year and I would be able to print our lessons and data for the teachers with no problem, as well as help them meet their professional development needs throughout the year.
The donations in this project will make a difference because it will make my planning and professional development run so much smoother.
Professional development is an important part of education, and by having these materials at my disposal it will allow me to train and learn from my peers.
