Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of outstanding young writers with incredible potential! I am the proud teacher of 90 wonderful 8th grade students from incredibly diverse backgrounds. But 80% of our school's population are considered "economically disadvantagedâ and basic supplies are often lacking.
My students come from more than 17 countries with more than 10 different first languages spoken, and 78% of our students are entitled to free lunches.
You can see a lot of smiling faces in our hallways.
In spite of the obstacles in their lives outside of school, my students are eager to create and learn and I strive to create an environment where success through continued education becomes achievable.
My Project
We want to start the year off right with plenty of resources to ensure that our students are wanting for nothing. Paper is a hot commodity in our school, whether it is being used for making copies, creating graphic organizers or foldables, or for completing drawings and projects. I am requesting plain white copy paper as well as several reams of different colored paper and organizers to keep it all neat and useful in our classroom.
Paper may not seem like such a big thing, but it can make a big difference with my students. The paper will enable my students to do their work with quality colorful materials! These simple things make such a difference.
The mailbox system will provide a place where students can pick up their daily mail and drop off their homework, parent notes, etc.
The sorting shelf will help us keep our important paperwork, graphic organizers and writing paper neatly stacked in one place.
This project is so important because the first days of school set the tone for the entire school year!
I want to instill a sense of responsibility and organization in my students so that we waste less time looking for things and more time learning!
