Paper and Cleaning Supplies for a Bright and Healthy Classroom!

My Students

Many of my students are coming to kindergarten as first time hearing aid users and have had no early intervention to develop language and foundational skills essential for kindergarten.

In school, the students are taught using an auditory and oral approach which teaches the children to use hearing and speech to develop spoken language for communication and learning.

Due to the fact that they were late identified as being deaf or hard of hearing (some students at close to 4 years old), they have an extremely limited vocabulary and struggle to communicate.

In addition to their physical, emotional, and learning challenges, many of my students live in poverty. My students often lack access to resources at home; therefore, we would like to provide opportunities and the tools necessary for them to learn and be successful at our school.

My Project

Cleaning supplies (paper towels, tissues, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc) are critical to maintaining a sanitary, healthy, and enjoyable learning environment. However, I did not ask families to contribute these materials at the beginning of the school year, as the mounting supply lists cause serious financial strain and stress for my students' families. With the arrival of cold and flu season, I've struggled to maintain a steady supply of these basic supplies from my own pocket. I far have exceeded my own teacher's choice budget ($250), and am in serious need of some external support to ensure my students and I can keep our classroom sanitary and healthy for engaging in science learning! Additionally, teaching and learning science can result in some messy spills, making those paper towels that much more critical.
