Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Paolo is a highly motivated student who excels at academics and loves to be active. Dajavonne always has a kind word and is thinking carefully about next steps after high school.

Jerry is an athlete, and learning to balance school and sports. He wants to share his passion for physical exercise with more students at our school.

Journey is a kind, thoughtful articulate young woman who is working hard to realize a future in which she will feel happy, professionally satisfied, and give back to the community. She is very interested in a health-related career in the medical sciences.

Our equipment for physical activity is in need of an upgrade. Metropolitan students are focused on future success, and a chance to work together and break a sweat in our gym motivates them to do better in the academic work. This project will support their physical pathway development, as well as helping develop along social, ethical and psychological pathways! We work better together when we have a wide variety of experiences!

In Their Own Words

We want to get more interesting equipment into our gym. Currently, our supply of equipment is outdated, worn, and budget cuts have limited the replacement of damaged or lost items. Our goal is to get a wide variety of new things for us to use during gym class. We will be more likely to participate if there are a variety of options available.

As stewards of this project, we will promote the appropriate use of this equipment and our example of leadership (taking action to address a need) will inspire others. We will let everyone know how we developed this project and show them how they can get active to make changes they think need to happen!

We love to exercise in gym, and we want more kids to learn to love it too! By having different opportunities, more students will be able to take advantage of the benefits of physical activity! We are seeing an increase in physical activity, and this project will help us to continue this change.
