This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a school social worker at a high school in an urban school district. My students come from diverse backgrounds. In addition to school, many students have jobs and other responsibilities at home which adds to their stress levels. My students struggle to manage social, academic, and home demands throughout their day. Sixty-seven percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunches.

My students face many barriers to achieving academic success.

Many have experienced trauma and have difficulty coming to school regularly. When they do come to school, many struggle to achieve academic success in the classroom. They lack the coping skills needed to manage stress and find academic success.

My Project

My students sometimes need to quickly change pants due to a female emergency. The variety of sizes of these pants will give my students clothing to wear when they need it. These items will help my students problem solve in the moment. They will be able to change and return to class without a disruption to their academic learning.

The pants will help my students feel confident regardless of what life throws their way.

These items will ensure that there is no interruption to their access to their education. My students will use these items to continue to be successful students.
