My Students
My school is not quite like any other school, I view it as a small village. Our STUDENTS and FAMILIES speak 22 different languages and represent 20 different countries from around the world. Most of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and we have various refugee families who attend our wonderful school. The staff here are way more than teachers. We truly try and build positive relationships with all 700 of our students. We want them to feel loved, safe, and cared for way beyond just the classroom. With this comes the challenge of my job, which in my eyes is to expose them and help them experience every sport, game, and physical activity available. My hope is that even one thing we do will spark an interest with my students that will last a lifetime, and continually push them to live a long and healthy life.
My Project
When it comes to my classroom I not only want to equip my students with the necessary knowledge to be active and healthy, but I want to instill in them important attitudes and skills such as respect, appreciation, caring and what it means to take ownership. I tell them all the time, this is not MY equipment, this is OUR equipment and all 700 students must utilize it and respect it. New storage and organization equipment would give my students the tools needed to help better take care of OUR equipment. The Mini Totemaster would help store our volleyball, basketballs, and kickballs. The storage bins would help and replace our cardboard boxes we currently have, and the organization of the jump ropes and hula-hoops will also be a tremendous visual organizer for our 68% ENL population. This ultimately would help teach our students the previously mentioned skills, and help our equipment last for a very long time!
