My kindergarten class is group of highly diverse students at a K-5 public school in Hawaii. We are a Title I school with a large English learner and socioeconomically disadvantaged student population. 65% of our 800 students participate in the free and reduced price lunch program.
My students marvel at the simplicity teachers offer to them every day and it is my goal to offer them more than simplicity to even better increase their skills within the classroom and simultaneously, light the fire that motivates them to succeed.
Technology offers such differentiated ways to help improve reading and math skills. These technological resources are noticed by these students, but are not within reach. I would love to have this technology within reach to these students to use in the classrooms for reading, math, science, social studies, and more.
My Project
Due to the pandemic, students are not allowed to touch other students supplies. With keeping that in mind, the students each need a set of clean Unifix cubes that they will be able to take home and use as math a manipulative's during our math lessons. Using manipulative's in kindergarten is very important for them to learn one-to-one counting. The Unifix cubes will help them have a hands on tool for counting.
Having enough Kleenex for each student is especially important during a pandemic.
5 year olds get runny noses a lot and they are definitely not allowed to share Kleenex with each other. I want to be able to supply enough for each student.
