Pandemic Prescription!

My Students

The first graders at my school are wonderful. They are full of life and have an excitement for learning that is infectious. Their minds are literally like sponges as they absorb new things each day. We have a mix of students who come from middle class homes as well as a lower socioeconomic demographic. It creates a wonderful dynamic in my classroom. All of my students are easily pleased and grateful for simple things.

I am so lucky to work with this incredible group of first graders, and I love that they are kind, resilient, loving, and diverse in their needs and interests.

My first graders are such a fun group of kids, and I look forward to everyday that I get to be with them and watch them learn.

My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on the academic and social-emotional health of our students. They now need very targeted instruction to fill in academic holes, a calm and quiet place to work, and a way to organize their materials. All three of these things have been lacking during the pandemic.

I would like to address the needs of pandemic-impacted learning in my classroom by purchasing an easel for skill-specific, small group instruction, a set of desk offices to give my students a sense of calm as they work, and a set of Seat Sacks to help them stay tidy and organized with their things.

An environment where the specific needs of students can be met and where they can feel calm and organized goes a long way in helping a student to feel comfortable and to succeed in school. Our students have been through a lot in the past two or three years. I want to give them all the calm I can along with effective, targeted skill instruction.
