Our classroom is full of 27 busy first grade students. We live in a suburban area and come from very diverse backgrounds. We have several nationalities and a high number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch within our classroom.
Students in this classroom value work and play throughout the day.
We spend time learning with hands-on materials that make learning fun and exciting.
My Project
By thinking outside of the box, I will be able to provide my students with free play in a safe way. Each Friday, my students earn free play time as a reward for positive classroom behavior, hard work, and kindness in the classroom.
With the current health crisis, this free play time will have to look a little different this year.
Each student will have an individual box that contains personal free play items to use during the day. Each box will contain high interest items such as Play Doh, putty, and kinetic sand in individual containers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
