My Students
My students are middle school English Learners (EL). They come from various backgrounds, including academic abilities, cultures, home languages, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Something that they have in common, however, is that they are eager to learn and are curious about the world.
Although I don't get to see them daily right now, they are doing their best to complete their distance learning lessons.
Distance learning was a surprise to all of us. Needless to say, I don't feel properly prepared to reach each of my amazing students and adapt their online learning to their needs during this uncertain time.
My Project
Ending the school year early and being quarantined to my home has kept me from some end of the year professional development that I truly wanted and needed! There are so many questions we don't know the answers to as of now. How will I teach my students during summer school? What can I do to make learning meaningful for them now while we are out of the classroom? What will happen in the fall? Will we return to the classroom, or will we be teaching online? Will it be a mix of distance learning and classroom learning?
As a result of the pandemic, I am seeking books that I can read to help improve my ability to reach students during this time of distance learning.
There aren't many books on distance learning yet, especially focused on English Learners. I have chosen books that I think I can blend lessons from to make it accessible during either distance learning or classroom lessons. I am hoping to equip myself, and my colleagues, as much as possible during this time of uncertainty. I would truly appreciate your support of my project so I can reach my students as soon as possible!
