I am super excited to get funding for my early learners. My students are in my early childhood education special education program at our school in Hawai'i. They all have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with goals and objectives, special education services, and related services. Their age ranges from 3-years to 6-years old and they would really benefit from technology in the classroom.
My early learners truly engage in interactive activities provided via technology.
Input comes from online ebooks on fiction and non-fiction topics and they practice number sense and phonemic awareness using specialized apps. I attended an Orton-Gillingham (OG) training this past summer and plan to offer interactive multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham learning activities on the iPads during centers time for independent practice.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, I will track how pairing the iPad bundles with my students learning by conducting timely assessments to see the impact on their performance. Technology has improved their scores in the past and they have also become 21st Century Learners. My students are in need of updated devices in my classroom so that my students can benefit from newer models. Also, these students are really engaged when it comes to technology. I will be truly grateful for my project to be fully funded and launched soon.
My students will benefit from these updated, newer devices because the current devices they are using are so old (5+ years) and not working properly.
They will also benefit from an engagement perspective. They respond well to the iPads because of the great educational apps and sites available in these times. They have been making progress as the programming supplements their learning of the common core state standards (CCSS), which leads toward closing the gap between special education and general education. These devices will also complement and reinforce the multi-sensory educational approaches that I will be applying in my practice.
