My students are inquisitive, energetic, and ready to learn. I teach twenty-two four and five year olds in North Georgia. As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school, my students face a variety of challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. I also teach in an area where a large portion of my students are Dual Language Learners, where English isn’t their first language.
For many students in my classroom, this is their very first school experience and I take that as a challenge to create in them a love for school and learning.
We spend the day developing our literacy, math, social, musical and artistic skills while building a classroom community where all students feel safe and loved.
My Project
My students desperately need an update to our art center. Our easel is broken and we need new paint and supplies for the quickly approaching new year. The art center is open every day during our free choice time for students to create independently. Students are able to use a variety of materials when visiting the art center.
This easel will provide a new place for my students to create their own masterpieces!
Painting encourages fine motor development, gross motor development, creative thinking, decision making skills, and critical thinking. Painting also helps children use their senses, express emotion, explore process and outcomes, explore color, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences.
