Painting Magical Stories

My students need one gallon each of Lakeshore Fully Washable Liquid Tempera in the following colors: orange, blue, red, brown, yellow, green, black, white, purple, and turquoise; one white butcher paper roll; one butcher paper holder/cutter; one paint pump; one space-saver mobile art center; one paint cup carrier; one Lakeshore no-spill paint cups; and one pack of 10 natural bristle paintbrushes.

This project is fully funded

I am a first grade teacher in a high-need neighborhood and for many of my students, school is the best part of their day. Therefore, I feel that it is my responsibility to make my students’ learning experiences at school both meaningful and exciting.

As difficult as writing is for many of my low achieving students, as well as English Language Learners (ELLs), I believe that their writing can certainly develop into masterpieces if they have resources that foster free expression through creativity. Children learn in different ways and I wish to provide the opportunity for them to create stories that capture their feelings and express their ideas with the use of paint.

As a means of enhancing literacy in my first grade curriculum, I feel that painting would an ideal opportunity for promoting storytelling. The mobile art center will provide an avenue whereby students can begin to tell their stories with watercolor and later develop writing skills around their works of art.

Your financial contribution will make it possible to realize this project for my first graders. Can you image their glowing faces and rainbow designs? I can hardly wait to see the magical stories that will evolve from their paintbrushes. Thank you for adding a little magic to our classroom.
