This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever taken an art class? Do you remember how fun it was to use pastels and have them all over your hands and how amazing it felt to be able to create something that you were proud of? I want my students to have that same experience, but sadly with budget cuts they may not know that joy.
I teach in a California urban charter school.
We sadly have very little funding and our students come from poor backgrounds. Any art supplies the students use must be gained through funding raising efforts. Despite this, my students LOVE ART!! Many of them have a particular interests in anime, urban art, landscapes, and portraiture. I have told students that artists often times have commissioned work. After that, some of my students started to create portraits or drawings and sell them to the teachers and staff to raise money.
My Project
The art materials requested will help the students further their understanding of and practice of painting and color theory. The students will learn how to mix the primary colors and use additive and subtractive color blending techniques. They will learn how to create still life paintings by observing objects and focus on creating 3D forms. My students love using paints and blending to create their favorite colors!
In a time of budget cuts, the arts are the last priority for funding.
However, it is more important then ever to make sure our children are well-rounded individuals. Creativity is one of the highest forms of thinking and yet it seems to be disappearing from our schools. Please donate whatever you can for these deserving students and help them have the same enjoyable art experience!
