My Students

My students are in a low-income area. Their parents work a lot in order to support them. It is difficult for parents to take time off to be in the school volunteering. These students face struggles such as lack of food and basic necessities, yet they are so resilient. I grew up in this community and faced many of the same challenges that my students face every day. I chose to teach here with the hopes of inspiring at least one child. The students at our school have so much potential!

Each year my students love to help each other succeed, and they assist me in creating a classroom that cares!

I am in awe of the things they do to help each other daily.

The students at this school are becoming very excellent at technology, and they are always teaching me new things. Our school now has 1-to-1 technology, and the students are loving it. They are taking ownership of their learning through their data books and are reaching new heights all the time.

My Project

I have a vision of creating a magical art experience for my students. I have a artist volunteer that has agreed to lead my students in the experience of painting their own canvas that they can take home and display.

I would love to make my students feel like actual artists with aprons and painting supplies that are superior to the watercolor pallets that they are used to using in class.

We will have refreshments and music to create the true ambiance of night out with friends. I am excited to create this creative "night. " Using a canvas is very different from the art that is normally done in our school. Students will be able to present their art to their parents in an "art gallery" and learn how to use the acrylic paints. I can't do this alone and would love your help to make my vision come true.
