I have 22 students who come from different types of backgrounds, but all share the same love for learning. We are a preschool through sixth grade school in Hawaii, and our vision is to provide a foundation in which each student's academic potential is developed in a nurturing environment.
A large percentage of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and school is the one place that some of them can feel safe and cared for.
We do our best to provide them with everything that they need; however, there are always ways to improve and maximize their success!
I teach in an amazing school with passionate teachers who only have one goal in mind. They want to educate our amazing students.
Our students are funny, sassy, creative, smart, corny, and brilliant! As their teacher, it is my job to ensure that they are getting the proper education that they deserve and all the tools they need to be successful!
My Project
Reading, Writing and Math have been at the forefront of our educational priority pyramid for decades with subjects such as Art and PE being at the bottom. I am hoping to bring out my students creativity one stroke at a time. For this project, my students will be creating their first hot mess canvas portrait. This method is the result of painting in a "messy" style on top of a vinyl stencil on canvas or painted wood. It's very fun and actually not too messy! In order for students to complete this project, it is imperative that they have proper supplies such as a canvas, fabric paint and stencils. The students will learn how to weed their own stencils and have the opportunity to take their imagination to another level.
Having proper art supplies will help them express their inner creativity.
We will conclude our art unit with a hot mess canvas gallery walk in hopes that they can feel what it's like to walk into an actual art museum!
