This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Who deserves art? Everyone! Art Class should be a place of imagination and color. Special needs students need refill paint for their markers.
I work with a Title I school in an urban environment.
All students receive free and reduced lunch. The school has no funding for art. The students love art. However their parents struggle to provide basics. Students have no funds to purchase supplies and the school operates on a tight budget.
My Project
My students will use the paint to understand color theory and create art work. Art activities are designed to engage and master content. Selecting art materials that are more sensitive to the needs of students with disabilities or are inherently designed to compensate for learning problems. The refillable paint that I requested, will be used to create artwork. The design of the refillable markers help special needs students. These makers will also allow students to blend the colors and create precision in their work and learn color mixing as well.
Many of my students have not had art class before.
They range from 6th graders to 8th graders. My goal is for each of them to leave my class loving art. This year, student work will be exhibited in museums and district buildings. I want the students to participate. To do all of this, they need to be able to master color in their artwork.
