"Use your creativity to tap into your innate power for growth and healing." -Artwell Art Therapy
My students are an amazing group of individuals who thrive on kindness from the world around them.
They come from diverse backgrounds and have many different learning styles, strengths, and needs. They all love to explore the world around them, are inspired by kind words and actions, and have truly wonderful, warm hearts.
Our Title I school is located in a rural town and we are a very close-knit community. Many of the families at our school have been in the district for generations.
My Project
In the current world we live in, we need to be able to both find peace and happiness as well as put peace and happiness back out into the world around us.
My students are both inspired by and look for opportunities to show kindness.
The stresses of school have never been quite like they are this year. All of our 5th graders are putting in such an amazing effort to stay positive and safe in school. They need both an outlet and fun activities to help balance the stresses they currently face.
What better way to heal and help others than through art? We would start by reading the book Scribble Stones and discuss the idea of kindness stones. One way to feel happy is to spread kindness and joy to others. The rock painting would allow the students to have so much fun creatively painting and serve as a release for stress. Then, as an added bonus, they would be able to place the rocks in their community for others to discover or give them as gifts to brighten someone else's day. They would get to experience joy twice with just one project and have a first hand experience with the concept of pay it forward.
This project will serve both the in person learners as well as the virtual learners. The class sets of stones will be used for the in person learners and the individual kits will be sent home to the virtual learners. All will be able to participate in this wonderful project.
Thank you so much for any support you can offer to this project and the well being of my students.
