This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very energetic 8 and 9year-olds who are excited about learning. They love to read and write and engage in conversations with their peers. They are eager to read both literature and nonfiction and write about what they’ve read. Many of my students began elementary school without foundational reading skills, but they worked hard to attain grade-level standards. Most of my students are second language learners. Reading in the classroom is essential to their continued success!
My Project
After almost a year and a half of distance learning, my students have just come back to the classroom. Art is a way to build my classroom community and engage my students in learning. We have only basic art supplies, and I am not able to get paint through my school. I would like my students to explore different artists and art mediums, and paint is a necessary tool to achieve this.
Art allows my students to express themselves.
Many of my students have had to overcome many challenges over this past year and a half. Creating their own, original paintings using these watercolor wheel sets will help them express themselves and build our classroom community, while meeting the third grade art standards.
