Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For some students first grade is the first time they are in a classroom, so coming into a new environment where they can see themselves represented makes a huge difference. Literacy centers are an important part of a first grade classroom and is where the students will spend a lot of their day so it’s really important to have a literacy center that shows my students’ different backgrounds. Not only will it help them feel seen and proud of who they are, but it will also smoothen the transition into the classroom.
When children see books with characters that look like them or share their culture, they get more excited to read and learn.
I want all my students to feel like they belong, and having books that represent them is a big part of that!
