This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love the curiosity and enthusiasm my students bring to the classroom. Despite facing challenges, they are always eager to learn and explore new ideas. However, many of them lack access to diverse books that reflect their own experiences and backgrounds. This is where your support will make a difference.

I am requesting a collection of diverse books that span a variety of genres—fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic novels—along with two bookshelves to help organize them.

These books will include works from authors of different cultural backgrounds, as well as books that cover a wide range of perspectives and experiences. By providing these resources, I’m giving students the opportunity to see themselves in the literature they read and also to experience stories from voices and cultures outside their own. Representation in literature is essential, and through these books, students will not only improve their reading skills but also gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

The two bookshelves will allow me to organize the collection in a way that is easy to navigate, encouraging students to explore and select books that resonate with their interests. Whether it's a gripping novel, a thought-provoking nonfiction piece, or a relatable graphic novel, these resources will motivate students to read more and engage in meaningful discussions.

This project directly ties into the principles of racial justice and representation. By having access to books that reflect diverse cultures, identities, and lived experiences, students are able to engage with stories that affirm their own identities and broaden their worldview. Representation matters—it shapes how students see themselves and others, fostering empathy and understanding.

Ultimately, this project is about improving literacy while also creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and empowered through the stories they read
