Books are crucial for young minds, as they provide a window through which they can see the world. It sweeps children off of their chairs and into a world of fantasy and magic. They live through the main characters' experiences and learn to love reading.
As reading is an acquired skill - by providing the students with opportunities to read books that they love and want to engage in, students will be able to read with prosody, expand their reading/language skills, develop cognitive skills, and so much more.
This list consists of various series books that are fifth grade favorites and an e-reader. The e-reader will allow me to have access to any book for in-class read alouds. Read alouds are crucial for students, and it helps students overcome reading barriers and models reading prosody, which I find very valuable. In addition to that, by providing the students with these physical books, my goal is for them to want to read and continue to read through the rest of their lives as they find joy through literature and text.
