My Students

This year I will be teaching preschool in a low income school in the city of Chicago. It is a blended classroom, meaning that there are typically developing students, and students with special needs including, ADHD, Autism, speech, and developmental delay. It is also the first year the school will have a full day program for preschool.

I have not yet met my students, but from what I hear it will be several of the kids first time in a school setting, and or away from their parents.

It will also be the first time any of the kids are staying for a full school day.

My Project

The spiral binding machine will allow me to bind the pages of the interactive stories that I create for my students to help engage them, and take ownership during story time. Interactive stories help students, even nonverbal students to participate.

Preschool aged children love to tell stories, and I want to help them bring their stories to life.

I want my students to write and illustrate their stories, read them to their classmates, take them home and read them to their siblings.

With this machine I will be able to make individualized journals for each of my students so we can see their progress over the course of the school year, which will make a nice keepsake for their families.

I will also be able to bind the social stories that I create to help students understand things like sharing, taking turns, how to be a good friend.
