it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The books I’m requesting for the Outsiders and Outcasts, as well as the Mystery/Horror units, are carefully selected to engage students with diverse, relatable characters and thought-provoking themes. These new class sets will give students the opportunity to dive into compelling stories that resonate with their own experiences and push them to think critically about society and their place within it. By providing fresh and relevant reading material, students will not only improve their literacy skills but also foster a deeper love for reading, which can inspire lifelong learning.
These texts will also encourage active discussions, creativity, and empathy.
By identifying with outsiders and confronting the unknown, my students will develop their analytical thinking, improve their emotional intelligence, and sharpen their writing skills, as they will be required to engage with these themes in meaningful ways.
My primary goal is to foster a passion for reading by providing access to high-interest, diverse, and thought-provoking literature. I want students to feel excited about their reading assignments and to find personal connections within the texts.
Ultimately, this project will help me create a richer, more dynamic learning environment that meets students where they are and inspires them to push further.
My students are remarkable because of their resilience and curiosity. Many of them come from diverse backgrounds, and they bring with them unique perspectives that enrich our classroom discussions. They are inquisitive, creative, and eager to connect with literature that reflects their own experiences and challenges. Despite any obstacles they may face, my students demonstrate a willingness to learn, grow, and explore new ideas.
