My Project
In my seventh and eighth grade accelerated ELA classroom, independent reading time is a daily routine where students dive into books they choose themselves, because we know that choice fuels motivation and builds lifelong readers. They absolutely love this built in time every day because it allows them to read books they are interested in. With this project, I am seeking funding to expand our classroom library with novels that my students have personally requested. These are the titles that reflect their diverse tastes, backgrounds, and curiosities. They put the list together themselves.
When students have access to books that resonate with them, their engagement, comprehension, and critical thinking skills soar.
These novels will empower my accelerated readers to explore complex themes, challenge themselves, and discuss ideas in a rich, supportive environment. This project will give each student the opportunity to select books that excite and inspire them, making independent reading time something they look forward to every day.
My goals for this project include: continuing to build a diverse, student driven library that reflects the interests of all learners. Increasing student motivation and ownership over their reading choices while improving their reading stamina, and analytical skills through consistent independent reading.
