This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from an impoverished section of West-Charlotte. All of my students receive free lunch and breakfast, and many don't know where their next meal is coming from when they go home.
Our school is an escape for the students to forget about their daily challenges they may face at home and in the neighborhood.
My students are incredibly gifted athletes that need the opportunity to shine. The leadership and team-building activities that team-sports provide will help my students beyond the classroom and our school. Our students deserve the same resources and opportunities as any other school. In order for them to succeed we need more resources.
My Project
When I approached my students about what I could integrate into my class to make fitness more exciting, many of them said they would like to hear more music. Music pumps people up and they are able to exercise longer while staying focused on skill development. With a speaker system I will be able to have music playing, but also give directions through the speaker at the same time.
Because of limited space inside the building, my classroom is now outside.
The speaker will make this transition easier for the students as well as myself. This will allow me to incorporate many dances into Physical Education and get the students active.
