This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In the words of Aristotle, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. I’ve been blessed with an opportunity to help my students strengthen their communication skills despite their different abilities. Whether they are engaging in aural rehabilitation or learning a new language system, my students deserve the opportunities to excel and become independent thinkers but more so independent communicators. Giving them the chance to have their voices heard is my ultimate goal. These students strive to succeed in their instructional environment whether it is in person or at home learning remotely. My students are from culturally diverse- low-income households across The Bronx and will benefit from any support possible.
During these times of uncertainties, my students have proven to be resilient- They unwillingly accepted the challenges brought about from this pandemic and are demonstrating they too can adapt to these changes.
They are RESILIENT! It is through their resilience that I am truly motivated to seek the best possible resources for them. They are concrete and visual learners who benefit from interactive lessons and tangible communication boards.
My Project
This printer will allow my students to continuously have access to the most updated lessons and communication boards needed to support their learning process.
As a speech-language pathologist servicing students with speech-language difficulties, my students need access to visual representations of concepts but more specifically, their words, their communication boards.
As we know, language is fluid and continues to change dependent on the learning targets. By allowing my students to have access to a color printer, I can assure they will keep up with the demands of their language needs through color coding and visual representations.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
