Ozobot Hands-On Coding Project

My students need the Ozobot Education Kit so they can learn to code mini-robots which is far more engaging than a character on an iPad screen.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with close to 50% of our students receiving free lunch. My students are hard working students from a rural/small town community. Many of them come from farming families and from families with parents working hard in factory positions. There are few opportunities for our elementary students to join after school clubs. I have provided the opportunity for students to join two different clubs.

My students truly love to be a part of the coding and robotics clubs that I have started.

They ask every week if we are having the club meetings. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds including many speaking a different language at home than we do in school. We have students who have moved to our community from other countries and have students who live in families that do not have electricity and don't drive cars.

My Project

When my students receive access to the Ozobots to program, they will be able to see their program skills come to life in these miniature robots. Having access to the Ozobots will open up new worlds and opportunities for them to explore.

My coding club students are currently restricted to only writing code for characters on our iPads; the Ozobots will allow them to learn new ways to code and bring their coding to life.

It amazes me when I am able to teach children as young as 5 years old to code on the iPads. The Ozobots will surely increase the interest in coding and spark wonder in so many more.
