Own Voices: Celebrating Hispanic and Latino Stories in Our Library
Help me give my students a diverse collection of books by Hispanic and Latino authors so they can see their cultures, histories, and voices reflected in our library.
My students are passionate, curious learners. These incredible students need to see themselves in the books they read. Many have expressed a desire for more books written by authentic Hispanic and Latino authors—stories that reflect their experiences, cultures, and heritage. With a panel of students, we selected titles that they feel would add to our collection, voices, and representation. As a librarian, I want to ensure that every student can find books that resonate with them and expand their understanding of the world.
By adding these books to our library, we will provide students with mirrors to see themselves and windows to explore different perspectives.
These stories will help foster a love of reading, encourage meaningful discussions, and support literacy development. Representation matters, and having access to books by authors who share their cultural backgrounds will empower students, validate their identities, and inspire them to embrace reading as a lifelong habit.
Your support will make a difference by ensuring our library is an inclusive, welcoming space where all students can find stories that speak to them.
