My goal for this year is to do more dissection labs with students. While we typically dissect preserved animal specimens like frogs, pigs, and mice, there are other fun learning options, too! Notably, students can dissect owl pellets (feces) to study what owls eat! Students pick apart the owl pellets to reveal the bones of small rodents the owls ate. This activity will go great in our ecology unit early in the year as we discuss food chains and trophic levels.
Dissecting owl pellets will allow students to explore the principles of ecology in an immersive, hands-on manner.
