This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 7th grade teacher in an urban school district where the entire school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. Covid has hit our city hard, requiring our school community to teach remotely. My students are an enthusiastic bunch who are motivated and excited to learn. They are faced with challenges daily, but what impresses me is their energy, humor, dedication, growth and willingness to continue to learn.
Our school is made up of low-income families as well as students with English as a second language.
Many of our students already struggle due to unstable homes. I can't grasp how difficult it must be for these students that are staying home another semester.
My Project
My 7th graders will begin in a Zoom classroom for distance learning. When we meet for instruction, I want them to feel as though they are in school by providing them a full view of my classroom as they learn remotely from home.
The Meeting Owl Pro is a 360 degree camera, mic, and speaker system that will allow me to step away from the computer and let me teach as though the students are sitting right in front of me.
It's ability to track my voice and move to my location will engage the students. When we are able to safely transition into the hybrid model (half the class at home and the other half in the classroom) this will allow all students to participate and see the instruction happening regardless of where they are learning from.
