Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Once upon a time, there was an overhead projector that sat in a first grade classroom since 1962. Over forty years later, it broke. It was sad, but the children loved that projector. It had an enviable record of success, as the first graders could testify. So, they asked their teacher for another one. Their teacher did not have another one. She asked the school for one, but she was told there was no money to buy one. “No money,” one boy cried, “How are we going to see our math lessons? What are we going to use to read poems?” Another child asked, “How will we learn math games to play? What about all the overhead math game pieces that you bought? Will they be thrown out, too?” A budding author spoke up. She said, “…but our writing!? When we try to make our writing better, how will we learn how to edit?”The teacher thought and thought. She told the children, "Rivers do not drink their own water, nor do trees eat their own fruit, nor do rain clouds eat the grains reared by them. The wealth of the noble is used solely for the benefit of others. The children were saddened, but understood. They accepted the fact that giving is good, and that one must learn to give and give to learn.
