Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade at a low income school, where 61 percent of the children receive a reduced or free lunch. I teach 20 first grade students math. One of their favorite ways to learn is with manipulatives.

My students love to use the overhead during learning stations(centers). They are able to use a overhead to learn and display what they are doing onto a chalkboard, where they duplicate their answers onto the chalkboard. The students are in need of some overhead materials for money, time and for word building. I want to keep that station one of their favorites by adding new materials to the station to make it a more hands-on experience. They will be using the overhead money to make addition, subtraction and to answer word problems. One student will make the problem on the overhead, while the other student will work the problem on the chalkboard. The students love to work with all types of overhead materials: math, reading, grammar and science.

I would like to see overhead words, prefixes, rhyming words and ending. The students can build words and display them on the chalk board. Another great overhead manipulative is an overhead clock (analog and digital). This would be perfect a great addition for children that are beginning to learn how to tell time.

You will make it possible for my student to continue wanting to learn in a very fun and exciting way in my overhead station. Your help will ensure that the children will continue to learn in a wonderful new fashion.
