Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. My students have all entered this school through merit and a lottery system. We take over 400 applications a year, and the students who apply must write an essay on the traits of an IB learner, as well as meet GPA requirements. They are drawn from all over the city and all walks of life.
The school has received a great deal of support, but many useful tools did not fit into the budget.
My kids are great, and many have overcome huge hurdles to come to this school. They really are a great generation.
School is an important part of the lives of my students, not only for education, but the chance at a better future. Many of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, so it's evident that times are hard on them and their families.
My Project
Computers are here, and they are here to stay. These Chromebooks are the first step in helping my students to be prepared for whatever a World of Technology holds for them. It is hard to find a job where a computer is not being used. In class my students will use these to create and share documents, record videos of themselves and watch their classmates practicing in Spanish. My hope is that they will gain confidence in speaking Spanish, as well as gaining the tech skills they will need.
Every other school district in our area is giving each student a personal computer.
I don't want my kids left behind. With your help, my students will have an HP Chromebook and a secure place to store it and charge it.
I am hoping to make sure that my students have these so that we can keep them on the cutting edge. Often skills that are learned on a computer transfer to other classes, college, and even the work force. By giving my students a Chromebook you are giving them a fair chance at a competitive future.
