Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach 30 fifth graders, mostly from public housing and homeless shelters, the four core subjects: language arts, math, science, and social studies. I need some items to enhance our classroom to a level these kids really need. Specifically, some items for our overhead projector, including a calculator, protractors, and a timer. The first two items would be used to teach math to the entire class. An overhead projector calculator allows me to show the students how to accurately operate the TI-15 calculators. The clear protractors allow us to work on problems together on the overheard projector. The timer enables me to place the time allowed for a test on the overhead projector. This would help the students a great deal when taking standardized, timed tests since they will know exactly how much time is left. I have also asked for an outdoor/indoor thermometer, which will help my students fully comprehend the science unit involving temperature. These materials will help my students a tremendous amount.
