Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning about science should be hands-on!

Many of my students are English language learners.

Learning English can be tricky and difficult for many. My students find it most difficult when having too much energy and forced to learn straight from a textbook. Learning about science works best when the students can experience hands-on activities as well as learn from different naturalists. Seeing a professional in their field is a great way for our students to develop a love for the sciences!

My Project

The Santa Cruz Mountains offer a rich classroom where students will have the opportunity to experience science first hand. Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School offers unique opportunities to students, individually and collectively. Students will interact with the environment around them and engage in dynamic educational experiences. Furthermore, students will be challenged to grow through these new encounters with nature and each other. All curriculum is developed around the California State Science Standards.

The Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School utilizes the vehicle of experiential education to model our objectives and communicate science literacy to all students.

With this experience, every student goes home with a greater appreciation of their objectives: respect for others, stewardship actions, self-confidence and teamwork, and wonder of nature.

Their curriculum is designed to meet many of the State of California Science Standards for grades 5-8. While addressing the state standards, this outdoor science education will create a love for the sciences among our students.
