My Students

This group of fifth graders loves excitement! They are full of energy and eager to engage with the world around them, and for this reason, they LOVE science! They are inquisitive and full of questions, and they will do what it takes to figure out the answers.

We are nestled in the heart of Austin.

It's close to the bustle of the city but feels like a small town. This is accomplished by lots of parents, neighbors, and community members who meet and interact like family. This way of life is passed on to their children who attend our school. Many have grown up together, and they all take care of each other.

Their strength comes from their diversity. Children from different backgrounds and socio-economic statuses treat each other as equals. This commitment to each other is reflected in our morning announcements where they recite the school motto, "I was born to make a difference."

My Project

Our 5th graders are a group of science-minded kids that enjoy participating in new ways to learn about the world around them. They are finally the big kids in our elementary and we want their last year to include an unforgettable science experience that will foster their love of learning.

Our overnight trip to Camp Champions will help them develop their understanding of scientific knowledge and skills by immersing them in the outdoors.

In this environment, they learn to apply some of the science concepts that they have been learning throughout the year.

They study the processes that form the Earth, identify plants, and species around them, participate in team-building skills, and test their personal growth with "challenge by choice" activities designed to help them grow their inner confidence.
