This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English language learners who live in an urban area in Los Angeles where gang activity is constant. They live in small rented homes or converted garages, often with their extended family. Every student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch.
Despite their obstacles, my first-grade students are excited about their future, are college-bound, and work hard every day to achieve their goals.
They love learning and come to school asking, "What are we going to learn today?"
My Project
My students need more games that engage their bodies as well as their minds. Despite having a largely barren concrete outdoor space with balls for kickball, basketball, and foursquare, my students love their outdoor time. They don't complain about the lack of seating or limited activities.
The students in my school deserve more variety in their outdoor play.
With your support, students will get a sturdy cart full of large-scaled wooden games like dominoes, Jenga, Connect 4, tic tac toe, and bowling. They will be able to sit and play cooperatively with their classmates while being able to maintain an adequate safe distance in the two outdoor perforated round metal picnic tables.
