Help me give my students Tuffo Muddy Buddy rain suits to support outdoor play and learning in all seasons. These will be used by students in five different preschool classes in all four seasons!
Hello! I am a teacher in the Duluth area with a passion for bringing nature-based play and curriculum into preschool classes . The demand for nature preschools is growing, and they have been historically less accessible to lower-income children and those with special needs. Bringing nature preschool philosophies to district early childhood programs can help bridge the gap and allow all children to experience the benefits of nature play!
Studies on nature preschools have shown the positive impact on children’s creativity, resilience, mental health, motor skills, and social skill development.
Children in nature play and engage in the rich, sensorial, open-ended play that older generations recall with a sense of nostalgia. This type of play is also important during the COVID-19 pandemic as outdoor play boosts the immune system and allows children time to interact safely.
The 3-5 year-old students you would be serving with your donation are from a variety of backgrounds, with many children receiving lowered tuition due to their family's income status. Many of these students are on IEPs (Individualized Education Program) as well. Please consider donating to help support the outdoor play of up to 100 children at our community center!
My Project
School is going to look different this year. As an early childhood teacher, I find it hard to grapple with the fact that my students will be discouraged from hugging, sharing toys with each other, reading together, and sitting next to one another at snack. Luckily, I am already equipped at getting my students outdoors each day in all weather due to the rain suits I received last year through a DonorsChoose.org project. Unfortunately, I do not have enough to share with my colleagues who will also be trying to get their students outdoors as much as possible, which is why I have submitted another project.
During this unprecedented time with many challenges, outdoor learning is one of the greatest solutions.
The virus can spread easily in small, enclosed spaces? Let's go outside! We need to boost our immune systems? Exercise, fresh air, and vitamin D are great for that! Young children struggle to communicate and learn with face masks on? They can take a break from them outdoors!
Minnesota is a beautiful state with forests, wildlife, and of course, unpredictable weather. Children will be kept comfortable and safe in all seasons with your generous donation toward this order of rain suits. Thank you so much for your support during this difficult time!
