“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” – O. Fred Donaldson We deeply value the importance of play in Early Childhood Education and desire to provide our students with resources to engage in developmentally appropriate outdoor play.
Our students are among the best and brightest, with endless energy and creative minds.
In a high poverty area, our students appreciate resources they are provided with and deserve adequate equipment to play with during their recess time. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten currently share a playground with only two tri-cycles. It becomes challenging for students to engage in play with limited resources.
My students need playground equipment such as hula hoops, balls, a basketball goal, and a soccer goal. These resources will enable students to resolve conflict as they play games and share the equipment we have requested. The students will improve upon their gross motor skills, balance, and grow socially. Students will be able to learn as they play with developmentally appropriate equipment.
This project will not only impact the lives of one classroom but of an entire Kindergarten team including four different classes.
Students share their recess time; therefore, we have a minimum of forty students in our small playground area at a time. These resources will afford students the opportunity to play games, learn conflict resolution, and engage in play that will impact their lives forever. This resource would truly impact the lives of students on our Kindergarten team!
