We are a group of unique individuals who love to learn in ways that apply classroom concepts to real-life situations. This year we began in a remote setting and are now in person four days a week. Creating opportunities to collaborate and share among the students is a top priority as we build back our classroom community.
We are a community of diverse learners.
Many of our students score at or above standard, but we also have 12-15% who are not performing at standard. Some students are second language learners and others have difficulty learning through traditional methods. These are students who have been identified with learning disabilities, which also includes students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD. Sometimes traditional methods don't address the way they learn.
In our school, we love to learn and we acquire knowledge and skills best through learning together, sharing ideas and applying our skills to real-world situations. I love that our school is made of unique individuals who bring varying ideas and enjoy working together. They solve problems by sorting out and building on each other’s ideas. Most importantly these scholars bring a love of learning to school every day!
My Project
Creating a safe outdoor space for students to learn and work is very important right now. By giving students beach chairs and lap desks our classroom can extend beyond four walls into our courtyard, allowing students to interact outdoors and participate in lessons in an environment that is more conducive to social interaction and collaboration.
These lap desks and beach chairs will create learning momentum and allow students to have more typical interactions with peers, building the relationships within our classroom community that have been missing over the past year and a half.
