Help me give my students an outdoor learning center that will enable the expansion of our students’ educational opportunities and greatly enrich their experience during the K-6 years.
Our learners, preK - 6th grade are amazing! They lift the hearts of many in all different ways. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They have taken the challenge on to work in leveled bands, so facilitators can meet each of their needs.
They are ready to take this next challenge on by creating a space where each child can succeed!
My Project
We have a vision for a wonderful outdoor learning center to be built in a natural outdoor sanctuary.
The ability for the students to use a Lifetime Compost Tumbler, to create compost for the floor beds is a great source of sensory stimulation that will be a great learning adventure.
Along with the use of the Gro Products VGS-2048CI-S Vertical Garden Bed, the Greenstone 100076 Latte Cedar Planter Box, Petite, Heartwood and the Greenstone 100079 Churchill Cedar Planter Box to be filled with this compost, which will be made by our students to help their vegetables and flowers grow.
The Outdoor Learning Classroom will impact a large range of educational curricula: environmental education, reading, ecology, biology, horticulture, natural science, preparation for the state assessment exams.
The entire school community, including students, parents, and staff members will proudly take ownership of this beautiful outdoor space and are committed to the required upkeep. We will incorporate the space into our curriculum and there will be many opportunities to make improvements over the years. We envision this project to be just the beginning phase of a decades-long commitment to this outdoor classroom.
Below are some activities and projects that can be developed using the learning garden: creating a reading area, providing bird houses, observation of trees, bushes and flowers cycle through the seasons of fall, winter, and spring, studying migratory songbirds and butterflies, a project to plant and monitor the growth of tulips from seed to blooms in the spring.
In addition, all grade levels would enjoy the outdoor sensory time, while reading and storytelling during the long and pleasant fall and spring seasons. In conclusion, the gift of this outdoor learning center would enable the expansion of our students’ educational opportunities.
