Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach an amazing group of students in a Special Education classroom, and I’m always looking for ways to support their unique needs while making learning fun and engaging. One powerful tool that supports focus, movement, and mental well-being is simple—but often overlooked: the outdoors.
This project will help us bring learning outside by providing lap desks and a multifunctional bench that can be used as both a table and a seat.
These tools will create a flexible outdoor learning space where my students can write, draw, read, and collaborate more comfortably and effectively.
Research shows that outdoor learning improves attention, reduces stress, and supports students who need sensory breaks or movement during the day. For my students, this is especially important. Whether it's practicing writing skills under the trees, doing math on the bench-table combo, or having small group discussions in fresh air, these items will transform how and where we learn.
